How to upgrade from Member-in-Training status to General Member status

Once you have completed an acceptable program of training in psychiatry, you are eligible to upgrade your membership status to a General Member. Please send a note requesting that you be upgraded to the American Psychiatric Association office of membership, 1000 Wilson Blvd., Suite 1825, Arlington, VA 22209. You must include:

• one copy of your residency completion certificate
• one copy of your current medical license
• updated address, phone number, email, etc.

Notes:
1. Members-in-Training are required to upgrade within 6 months of completing their residency programs.
2. MITs who continue their training in Fellowship programs are not required to upgrade, but they must notify the APA of their Fellow status, giving the location and type of program, along with expected completion date.
