The Pittsburgh chapter of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society continues to stand out for its vibrancy and strong sense of community. With a diverse network of clinicians, researchers, academicians, trainees, and private practitioners, the chapter reflects a dynamic and deeply committed psychiatric workforce. Supported by two residency and fellowship programs, as well as dedicated community-based professionals, our chapter remains rooted in both academic excellence and community impact.
Over the past year, we have seen meaningful growth and engagement across multiple initiatives. A highlight was our recent networking event, at Zone 28 Bowing Ally which was exceptionally well received. The event not only welcomed new members but also fostered new collaborations. Encouragingly, several attendees became actively involved in the chapter, joining the council and contributing to various committees.
We are particularly proud of the leadership demonstrated by our early-career members. Recent graduates have taken on important roles in government relations, working to address ongoing legislative and policy challenges at the state level. Supporting these emerging leaders remains a key priority, as they represent the future of our profession.
Our chapter continues to align closely with the mission and values of the American Psychiatric Association, while also collaborating with other professional societies. Several Pittsburgh members including Dr. Tripp and current President Dr. Fischer have been active contributors at the APA Assembly, further amplifying our voice on a national stage.
This year also marked the introduction of new chapter awards recognizing excellence across career stages. These honors were presented during our Resident Night, which showcased outstanding research posters and innovative work from residents and fellows. The event was widely celebrated and highlighted the exceptional talent within our training programs.
In addition, in November 2025, we hosted a well-attended educational program in downtown Pittsburgh focused on new and emerging psychiatric treatments and systems of care.
Looking ahead to June 2026, we are excited to host a reimagined spring event – a networking and career-focused summit. This new format reflects our commitment to providing practical value to members while we prepare for a larger statewide conference later this year.
As we move forward, the Pittsburgh chapter remains dedicated to fostering engagement, supporting professional development, and strengthening our impact on the communities we serve. We encourage residents, fellows, and members at all stages of their careers to get involved, take on leadership roles, and continue building on our strong tradition of collaboration and service.
