About the PaPS - Philadelphia Chapter


The Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society - Philadelphia Chapter comprises over 950 psychiatrists practicing in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties.



Its staff and membership are dedicated to assisting its members and working on behalf of their interests and those of the patients they serve. PPS is a chapter of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society, a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

 

Mission:

The Philadelphia Psychiatric Society is an organization of psychiatrists in southeastern Pennsylvania that:

  • Advocates for its members and their patients.
  • Promotes access to and implementation of the highest quality in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders - including substance abuse - for patients and their families.
  • Sustains, enhances, and promotes psychiatric leadership in the provision of mental health services.
  • Supports the professional development and practice needs of its members.
  • Meets its goals by working in concert with its district branch, the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society, and its national organization, the American Psychiatric Association.

 

Vision:

The Philadelphia Psychiatric Society is the voice of psychiatry in the region, promoting humane, accessible, quality prevention and treatment of psychiatric diseases.

 

Values:

  • Preventing psychiatric illness and improving the health of people suffering from these illnesses. 
  • Establishing and enhancing the importance of mental health as a cornerstone to the best overall health and quality of life.
  • Fostering intellectual and social diversity within the organization.
  • Promoting the highest ethical standards of professional conduct.
  • Supporting patient focused, scientifically based treatment.
  • Defining psychiatric diseases and psychiatric treatment to encompass all illnesses in the DSM as well as concepts and terms such as mental illness, mental health, substance abuse, addictions, and behavioral health.

  • Opportunities to socialize and interact with colleagues. A quarterly newsletter transactions with information about members, local psychiatric issues, and chapter activities.
  • Representation of local issues through its representatives to the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society's governing council.
