Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society Fireside Chat- Wednesday 6/14

Fireside Chat

An interactive discussion with Professor Todd McGowan

The Unsatisfying Objects of Desire

Wednesday, June 14, 2023
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Eastern

Professor Todd McGowan is a leading expert in Hegelian Philosophy, Psychoanalysis and Existentialism, and the intersection of these lines of thought with the cinema. When capitalism and societal virtues gravitate towards finding that “perfect commodity” to provide complete satisfaction, Prof. McGowan argues that our psyche is structured around the process of loss and failure.

In this unique and highly counterintuitive webinar, he will share his understanding of Freud’s death drive, capitalism and how it linked to our yearning for satisfaction (or dissatisfaction.)

The moderator for this event will be Mayank Gupta, MD, PaPS Pittsburgh Chapter Secretary/Treasurer. We look forward to your participation in this discussion.
