Cancer is a disease of the aging. With the growing number of older adults nationally and across the globe, psychiatrists in all settings are more likely to encounter people living with cancer later in life and facing a
myriad of neuropsychiatric sequalae of cancer, cancer-treatments, and aging. This talk will provide an
overview of psychiatric oncology with emphasis on older adults and cancer.

DSM-5-TR Outline for Cultural Formulation and Cultural Formulation Interview: Tools for Culturally/Structurally Competent Care. The definition and rationale for cultural competence will be presented. Rationales include 1) improved quality of care focusing on patient-centered care and equitable care, 2) ACGME accreditation standards for psychiatry residency training programs. Next, a road map to cultural issues in DSM-5-TR will be provided in all 3 sections of DSM-5-TR. Finally, two tools for culturally competent care in DSM-5-TR will be presented: 1) Outline for Cultural Formulation and 2) Cultural Formulation Interview.

This session will provide an overview of Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia, including the natural history and progression of symptoms over the course of the illness. Behavioral interventions will be discussed as the first line treatment for managing these symptoms. The evidence of pharmacologic interviews will be reviewed with a focus on both safe4ty and efficacy. Management of symptoms related to Parkinson’s Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia will also be discussed.
